Just thought I'd do a quick round up of some new bits and pieces I've bought in the last month.
New fabric! Both ordered from Frumble, a seriously dangerous website for me to visit as I have no self control when it comes to novelty prints. Cats and cameras people, CATS AND CAMERAS!
I am absolutely besotted with the fantastically named "disco cat" fabric. It couldn't be more awesome if it tried: yellow, polka dots, cats and musical notes! Such a *me* fabric. I want to make another Elisalex dress with it and have ordered enough to add sleeves. It's a heavier weight cotton, almost more of a calico/furnishing fabric, so it'll be lovely to work with. Still unsure what to do with the camera fabric, which I mostly bought because it has a Diana camera on it. I could only get 1.25 metres so it'll probably turn into a skirt.

Still on a sewing theme, I found this dungaree shorts pattern in a charity shop last month for 10p!
Imagine having lilac polka dot dungarees. Groooovy. I've always lusted after dungarees however I'm aware they're not that comfortable or flattering if you have a chest (damn you chest!) so I don't know whether I'll use the pattern. It was worth buying for the cute illustrations alone.

Since cutting my hair shorter a few months ago I've rediscovered my love
for scarves which is annoying as I charity-shopped most of my old, non
winter scarves at the end of last year. My mum, being the thoughtful
person she is, bought these two floral beauties for me a couple of weeks
ago from Debenhams.
I've been alternating between them most days and have received so many compliments! They also look lovely hanging on the back of my bedroom door.
In other news I've almost finished my latest dress. I'm really pleased with it as it fits so much better than my last dress. Just need to hand finish the bodice lining and skirt hem and I'm done. Blog post coming soon! :)

DeleteI had a pair of Laura Ashley dungarees in the '80's and just loved them! The fabric was a beautiful lawn cotton and I wore them in summer with nothing underneath (they had quite a substantial bib!), and in the winter with tee shirt under and cardi over. Can't remember what happened to them, they probably fell to bits eventually! Time for a dungaree revival I say!

DeleteOMG that dungaree pattern is like the stuff of dreams. I was a total dungaree kid when I was growing up - I blame my mother for dressing 3yo me in a DRAGON dungaree suit. It was rather amazing. I sort of want to make myself one now.
ReplyDeleteDRAGON DUNGAREES?! Amazing!! I used to have pale pink denim dungaree shorts when I was little which I wore to pieces. I loved them so much. I am very tempted to make a more grown up replacement pair, perhaps in a plum or dark blue corduroy.
DeleteLove that cat print! I wish I was crafty enough to be able to make things out of nice fabrics but alas I couldn't even sew a button on. Also like the scarves - I am a scarf addict and am hardly ever seen without one, I've been cursing the weather this week for being too hot for a scarf!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you could make something Kim. Sewing is a bit like baking. If you follow your instructions properly you will end up with something vaguely presentable!

I've been on a fabric binge too of late, as I've just taken up quilting. Like you, it's the novelty prints that draw me in like a moth to a flame!
ReplyDeleteHaha, it's dangerous isn't it? And it seems the weirder the novelty print the more tempted I am to buy it! My favourite weird prints I've spotted so far have been bright coloured llamas and a "sexy firemen/workmen" print!
